Welcome back to school! For those returning to St. James School and the 39 new families coming through our doors for the first time, I share in your excitement! All of our staff is here to serve. We are dedicated to the ministry of Catholic education and, like you, sacrifice to promulgate the faith!
St. James School has always have maintained rigorous expectations for our students. This year a conscious effort toward the development of a lifelong commitment to the service to others will be put in place. A reasonable service requirement has been put in place for upper level students and opportunities for monthly service will be available to all of our students. Teachers will address this in their newsletters and we will speak to it at Parent Information Night.
Thanks for all of your efforts in making purchases that align with the uniform code. I am aware that a rainbow of neon colors is in vogue. Some parents questioned their choice and were told “no” to pink, green, and other colors. Please abide by the code in fairness to all students. In some cases a mere switching out to white or black shoe laces will bring the shoes to code. The uniform policy is on the SJS website under the “Student Life” drop-down menu.
Every parent/guardian is expected to attend the Parent Information Night on Thursday, August 28, at 7:00 in the Parish Center. After a short introductory address, the teachers will speak to you in the classrooms. Presentations will be made multiple times for the convenience of parents with multiple children. The twenty-minute classroom presentations will be at 7:25, 7:50 and 8:15.
Don’t forget our annual Grandparent Day on Friday, September 6. Grandparents and other special family members are invited to attend Mass with the school community in the Parish Center at 9:30. A reception with cookies and juice will follow in the gathering area and our guests are invited to tour the school and visit the children’s classrooms!
