Dear Parent/Guardian of an incoming 7th grader,
Greetings! My name is Jonathan Schlesinger, and I am the 7th/8th grade science teacher at St. James School. I hope that your child is excited for summer break!
While it may seem a bit premature to start talking about Seventh Grade, I wanted to make you aware of an important item that your child will need for science class this fall.
In order to develop good lab safety habits and ensure your child’s safety, all 7th graders are expected to wear laboratory safety glasses or goggles during most labs and activities. In the past, I’ve collected money from 7th graders at the beginning of the school year and ordered glasses from a vendor. This year, we ask that you purchase the glasses for your child before the start of 7th grade.
Requirements for safety glasses: side-shields to protect from chemical splashes
Requirements for safety glasses: splash-resistant (covered vents)
Glasses that meet these requirements are available at any hardware store or online for less than $5.Students with SJS alumni siblings may use their older sibling’s hand me down safety glasses. All glasses will need to be approved by me before use. Your son or daughter should bring their safetyeyewear in a labeled ziplock bag to science class by Tuesday, August 22nd, 2017.
Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for helping your child prepare for 7th grade. Here’s to a summer filled with personal and spiritual growth, rest, and adventure!
Please see below for suggested styles/models as well as links to suitable options.

○ Note: Goggles similar to these are often free after rebate at the Menards in Mt. Prospect.
**Don’t forget: All SJS 7th graders are required to complete at least 7 hours of service by the end of the school year. Summer is a great time to start fulfilling this requirement!** Click here for the service hour form: ServiceLearningform
